Brighton Fashion Week 2012
When: 30th May – 3rd June 2012
Where: Various venues throughout the city
Brighton Fashion Week exists because there is a natural and healthy gap for it within the marketplace. Its aim is to encourage and nurture industry in this creative capital. It seeks to further establish Brighton as a cultural centre for the fashion industry, which is already so fertile and affluent.
The city of Brighton offers a vibrant and unique backdrop of diversity, alternative subcultures, inclusivity, ecological awareness, entertainment and cosmopolitan lifestyle. They bring together the high fashion industry, the mainstream industry and the uniquely alternative along with the general public.
Highlights of some designers 2012:
K and K London‘s design duo Katrina Ferrari and Kate Hull-McCracken met 6 years ago whilst studying at the London College of Fashion. Both then went on to persue their degrees at Middlesex University. After showcasing their graduate collections at the Truman Brewery and Graduate Fashion Week, the designers began collaborating on numerous projects, eventually leading to the launch of their own clothing line, K and K London.
Louise O’Mahony‘s Oh My Honey collection for BFW has come together by combining her passion for the 1950’s silhouette and her love of wearable art. She has been inspired by her favourite era, and has captured it’s classic feminine silhouette whilst using modern materials to design larger than life creations that exude fun, femininity, confidence and extravagance. Delicate tulles and organzas lie next to heavy satins and upholstery fabrics, bright colours take over, broken up by scatterings of midnight blue.
Tramp Vintage Boutique has become a Brighton name in the vintage household. Tramp provides an affordable yet glamorous shopping experience for elegant and classy women. Owner Michelle Terras’s eye for timeless style places the shop in a unique position for eclectic yet chic diversity through the decades.
