Brighton Fringe is England’s largest arts festival with over 650 events in 490 venues across the city. From large public spaces to pop-up pub-theatres the Fringe takes over our city and our diaries in May.

In 2013, The Fringe includes the 2nd May bank holiday and the half-term week too, so even more opportunity to get stuck in. Here we’ve picked out some of our highlights for 2013 and the big events not to be missed.

Cabaret

La Clique. A magical show like no other, La Clique was born in 2003 and went on to scoop a host of awards, including an Olivier, before playing to sell-out houses world-wide. Funny, sexy and dangerous, La Clique showcases the world’s best circus, cabaret, burlesque and magic. Tickets

Pie Eyed. After their sell-out show at The Roundhouse, London, Chalk Dust Cabaret Collective bring Pie Eyed to Brighton Fringe. An interactive show musing on booze culture and promising grotesque caricatures of familiar social archetypes. Comedy

Shit-Faced Shakespeare is an entirely serious Shakespeare play… with an entirely shit-faced actor. The legendary Magnificent Bastard Productions stagger down to the Brighton Fringe with the most raucous Shakespearian performance you’ll ever witness! Tickets

Films & Literature

Fringe City Family Picnic is back!

Baby Loves Disco: Tropical Beach Party. May Bank Holidays just got funkier! Brighton’s coolest cocktail bar is transformed into a childproof space with club DJs spinning retro disco and current pop tunes for parents with kids (0-7 years). Bom-Bane’s Music, Comedy, Talk & Film. Jane Bom-Banes an eclectic restaurant in Kemptown is opening its doors to many a night of film, music & puppetry for an eccentric experience, only describle as “very Brighton.”

King Porter Stomp + Special Guests. Over the past 5 years King Porter Stomp have brought their unique union of upbeat ska, dub, funk and hip hop to venues and major festival stages Europe-wide. Theatre

Bianco. Award-winning circus company NoFit State return to Brighton following hit success with Tabu in 2009 and Barricade in 2012. Bianco is an immersive promenade experience that takes place above, behind and around a standing audience. With a pounding soundtrack performed by a live band, this is an all-consuming theatrical experience blending jaw-dropping technical skill with untamed elegance. Tickets

Boogaloo Stu’s Pop Magic. Audience members collectively write, record and produce their very own pop single accompanied by an all-singing all-dancing pop video. Along the way, your host and musical impresario Boogaloo Stu reveals the modest but glittering highs and barrel-scraping lows of his own pop career. Visual Art

Go on, No One’s Looking. Be Naughty. Look out for Citizen Skwith signs on the Brighton streets. He’s been a bit naughty putting them up now you be naughty, go on, nick yourself an original.

The BIG Brighton Fringe Fair. Over 40 stalls under one roof. Past and present students from the University’s Art School will be exhibiting and selling their unique work alongside local inspirational artists and designers. Not to be missed…

The Soul Dome. It is a 360′ inflatable cinema dome and cafe. Totally immersive sensory ecstatic shows programmed to suit all age groups, with live and interactive elements. Including ‘Immersive Sound and Light Cinema’ featuring a variety of 25 min full sensory 360 experiences. Reclining on cushions, be prepared to be stunned and delighted, heightened and deeply touched.
