Concorde 2 & Brighton Up presents Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry
When: Wednesday, 13 February 2013
Where: Concorde 2
Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, a veteran of reggae and dub was a key founder in the development of Jamaican popular music and this February Concorde 2are pleased to announce his very own show.
Without doubt the best known and most charismatic of all Jamaican record producers. Scratch found his popularity back in the 60s with quirky instrumental numbers whose titles often took inspiration from the spaghetti westerns that were popular in Kingston’s downtown cinemas at the time. These instrumentals found great favour in the UK with the skinhead cult of the late 60s and Scratch scored his first British chart hit with ‘Return of Django’. He won a Grammy award for his last album ‘Jamaican E.T’ and is now set to wow the crowds of Brighton. Scratch’s place in the history of popular music is assured and the influence of the sounds he created can be heard reverberating around the world.
