There’s so many free and cheap events to get involved with this October with comedy, music, tours, family days out, exhibitions and more you’ve got no excuse to stay inside just because the weather’s turning! Here are our highlights from what’s on in Brighton.

Jon Burgerman – A Failure of Judgement

Jon Burgerman has been one of the most prolific and recognisable artists of popular culture, his unique pieces being collected worldwide. The Birmingham born urban artist, designer, illustrator and entrepreneur has exhibited alongside the likes of Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood and has works included within the permanent collection of the V&A; he now brings his trademark cartoonish, angst-ridden creations for an this Brighton exhibition.

Brighton Comedy Fringe

The place to see the stars of the future, Brighton’s most charismatic venue hosts it’s 8th year of fantastic line-ups alongside the Brighton Comedy Festival. The best, funniest and most alternative comedy around offering audiences a chance to sample something different from the usual and keeping it’s affordable ethos with all tickets under £10. Tour of the Old Ship Hotel

Take a tour of the oldest hotel in Brighton. The Old Ship Hotel dates back to 1559, frequented by royalty aristocrats and artists, with grade 11* listed assembly rooms supplied by extensive cellars. This historic building is immersed with Brighton’s history and its development as a leading seaside resort.

Magpie Eco Festival

A new free annual, family friendly, community event. With the outdoor Park Stage, Shabitat Indoor Acoustic Stage and the “Crusty Disco”- a converted recycling milk float, providing a platform where you can be a DJ for 30 minutes. With live music, talks and workshops, eco craft stalls and other entertainment, it’s a great day out for all the family.

Ragroof Tea Dance

The Drawing Circus and Magpie Magazine present an evening of live music and life drawing. Cast off the melancholy of Autumn, step into a surreal garden, pick up a pencil and draw enchanted scenes of human figures transforming into plants and birds. The event is part of the national Big Draw.
