Free & Cheap Things to do in October
There’s so many free and cheap events to get involved with this October with comedy, music, tours, family days out, exhibitions and more you’ve got no excuse to stay inside just because the weather’s turning! Here are our highlights from what’s on in Brighton.
Jon Burgerman has been one of the most prolific and recognisable artists of popular culture, his unique pieces being collected worldwide. The Birmingham born urban artist, designer, illustrator and entrepreneur has exhibited alongside the likes of Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood and has works included within the permanent collection of the V&A; he now brings his trademark cartoonish, angst-ridden creations for an this Brighton exhibition.

The place to see the stars of the future, Brighton’s most charismatic venue hosts it’s 8th year of fantastic line-ups alongside the Brighton Comedy Festival. The best, funniest and most alternative comedy around offering audiences a chance to sample something different from the usual and keeping it’s affordable ethos with all tickets under £10. Take a tour of the oldest hotel in Brighton. The Old Ship Hotel dates back to 1559, frequented by royalty aristocrats and artists, with grade 11* listed assembly rooms supplied by extensive cellars. This historic building is immersed with Brighton’s history and its development as a leading seaside resort.

A new free annual, family friendly, community event. With the outdoor Park Stage, Shabitat Indoor Acoustic Stage and the “Crusty Disco”- a converted recycling milk float, providing a platform where you can be a DJ for 30 minutes. With live music, talks and workshops, eco craft stalls and other entertainment, it’s a great day out for all the family.

A fantastic three-hour participatory event featuring authentic vintage music, glamorous costumes, glorious dance displays, Ragroof’s unique instant dance classes in a number of popular dance rhythms, and a chance for everyone to trip the light fantastic.Everyone is welcome, no partners are needed !

2pm – 5pm
Showing classics and underground films in the basement every Tuesday with comfy sofas and free popcorn! Also text your drinks order to the bar upstairs so you don’t have to leave your seat! Films are chosen each month by voting punters.
Tues 8th,15th, 22nd & 29th Oct
Monthly event which blends the old traditions of a French Salon with debating societies. Got a passion? Share it with the Catalyst Club. Three guest speakers each take to the lectern for 15 minutes to enthuse, debate and entertain on subjects that range from Voodoo to tinned meat!

Latest Music Bar
From high fashion to high street consumerism, cheeky ceramics to controversial chairs, provocative lamps to ‘rubbish’ jewellery, this major exhibition subverts your preconceptions and challenges your relationship with objects you use on a daily basis.

The Drawing Circus and Magpie Magazine present an evening of live music and life drawing. Cast off the melancholy of Autumn, step into a surreal garden, pick up a pencil and draw enchanted scenes of human figures transforming into plants and birds. The event is part of the national Big Draw.
