The Found Footage Festival
The Found Footage Festival is a live comedy event and screening, featuring hilarious unearthed footage from VHS videotapes gathered from thrift stores, garage sales, warehouses, estate sales, and dumpsters throughout the United States. Hosted by childhood friends Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher , The Found Footage Festival’s European tour gets underway this Summer, featuring at the Komedia ‘s Comedy Club this June. Hosts Joe Pickett (The Onion) and Nick Prueher (Late Show with David Letterman) are at hand throughout the screening providing unique interpretations and humorous commentary after each clip.
“I have a feeling,” states Prueher, “that stupid videos might be the international language. I think this stuff will translate well. Whatever the video is trying to do, all we ask is that it fails in an entertaining way.”
From senseless industrial training videos of hilarious office and home accidents to home movie cast offs found on the street, the Found Footage Festival sets out to expose these overlooked riches in a well thought out performance.
A hint at some of the most favourable include ‘Jig don’t Jog – get fit the Irish way’, Harvey Sid Fisher’s ‘Astrology Songs’, a religious exercise video aptly named ‘Blessercize’, several minutes of explicit footage featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger attempting to force feed a women a carrot and self help guide to seducing women through hypnotism. Riotous clips from cable TV dance show Chic-A-Go-Go, which left both Pickett and Prueher so in awe that they themselves applied to be on the show, as well as outtakes of footage from notoriously foul-mouthed RV salesman Jack Rebney – the subject of a 2010 documentary known as ‘Winnebago Man’, which shortly spurred an online phenomenon of clips worldwide. Applaudingly laughable and money undeniably well spent.
