There’s some great events to welcome October to Brighton from comedy festivals to live music and more, here are our highlights for the weekend of the 5th-6th October.

All Weekend:

Brighton Comedy Festival – The annual comedy extravaganza returns this weekend with it’s biggest and best line-up of events so far. This weekend’s highlight has to be ‘Max and Ivan: The Reunion’ a bewitching narrative sketch comedy tale of love, loss and shatterproof rulers! Check out our other highlights here.

Brighton Comedy Fringe – Running alongside the Brighton Comedy Festival, Brighton Comedy Fringe offers audiences the chance to sample something different from the usual comedy fare. Keeping it’s affordable ethos all tickets under £10. This weekend’s shows include sketches, stand-up and puppetry!

Jon Burgerman: A Failure of Judgement – Jon Burgerman has been one of the most prolific and recognisable artists of popular culture. In this free exhibition, at Ink_d Gallery, the artist explores his relocation to a disturbingly consumerist New York and his critical reaction to modern life.

Saturday:

Magpie Eco Festival – After last years 20th birthday celebration, Magpie Cooperative is turning the Magpie Eco Festival in to a free annual, family friendly, community event. There’ll be live music on two stages as well as DJ’s, talks, workshops, food and drink and craft stalls.

Splitting the Atom XVI – An experimental, free, noise all dayer at the Green Door Store with a variety of acts including Painiak, Orok and Mass/Emb Ortolan plus DJs.

Brighton Unsigned’s 2nd Birthday Bash – To celebrate the 2nd birthday of the people that bring you the best unsigned acts, Brighton Unsigned presents an evening of six bands hosted by Juice FM’s Guy Lloyd including The Watermelons + Half Crown + The Dubarrys + The Nuts + Josh Renton + Our Colour Company

Love Beat presents DJ EZ – Hailed by the music industry and public alike as “The Best” UK Garage DJ to ever grace a set of decks, DJ EZ delivers on all levels, happily switching between styles and eras without missing a beat. He’s joined by Roska, UNIT7, Anushka – Live and DJ Outbreak for this great night at Coalition.

Sunday:

Palmeira Mansions Tour – Take a glimpse back at Victorian life in a house tour which reveals the opulence, taste and lifestyle of a nouveau riche gentleman. This terraced house with its impressive Grade II* listed interior, has miraculously survived and is now part of the English Language Centre in Hove.

Kilimanjaro Presents: Ryan Keen – Ryan Keen, the bright star in the future of new acoustic music, brings his live show to Concorde 2. His music, which combines gentle melodies and impressive technical guitar playing, fitting somewhere between Newton Faulkner and Ed Sheeran. Read our interview with the man himself here!

Bent Double – An evening of Comedy hosted by Zoe Lyons, star of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and headlined by Hannah Gadsby whose delightful wordplay and heart-breakingly funny, self-deprecating observations have delighted audiences all over the world.

Night Food – A night of great music at Riki Tik with Swinging Rhythm & Blues sides + roots of Ska selections inspired by the 1950’s Jamaican sound systems.
