Christmas is definitely approaching at high speed and our calendar is bursting with festive events throughout December, across Brighton and Hove. Here we’ve rounded up some of the highlights from this Weekend, don’t worry there are some non-Yuletide things to do too for you humbugs out there! With craft fairs, ice skating, christmas festivals, theatre, comedy, live music and club nights there’s so much going on so get out there!

Artist Open Houses Christmas Festival 2013 – It’s your last chance, this Weekend, to get some great Christmas gifts and visit some of the 50 houses who have opened their doors to showcase an incredibly diverse selection of artworks, all available to buy directly from local artists and makers in their homes or studios.

Art Junky – An indoor market that celebrates and showcases local arts, crafts, music, vintage, fashion, jewellery, bric-a-brac… and so much more! With live DJs who play weird and wonderful tunes that get people dancing in the aisles, children’s activities to keep the little ones happy and creative, and the warm and welcoming Art Junky Cafe, which serves up homemade goodies and winter warmers!

Royal Pavilion Ice Rink – Celebrate the colder weather by heading down to the annual ice rink at the Royal Pavilion for it’s fourth year. Stunning, twinkly, romantic, child-friendly, all topped off with beautiful food in our rink side bar and restaurant.

The Pop Up Pavilion Christmas Festival – Explore the Tremendous Tipi village including the Winter Warmer log cabin, with spiced Winter Pimms, rum hot chocolate or a mulled cider and the pop up chocolate shop or snack on some roasted chestnuts. Plus meet Father Christmas in the magical raindrop caravan

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe – Get down to Brighton Little Theatre to see this classic tale featuring fantastic costumes, magical make-up, stunning sets and amazing lighting and sound effects! The four Pevensie children discover a magical wardrobe that leads them to the amazing land of Narnia, where they encounter talking animals, mythical creatures, a devious witch and a mystical lion called Aslan.


Farmers Market – On the first Saturday of every month expect variety and quality in equal measures, really great, local produce in beautiful surroundings at St Ann’s Well Gardens. This Christmas edition will also feature local crafts and goods as well as a BBQ, live music and mulled wine plus an appearance by Santa himself!

Circus Street Winterland Festival – Fantastical, free, festive event, on Circus Street. Enjoy quirky dance performances, a labyrinth with free gifts for children – an alternative Santa’s Grotto, Christmas trees, bar, Alice in Wonderland Imaginarium, food stalls by Street Diner, make your own Christmas decorations, Brighton Bier, get up close and personal with real owls, circus acts, carnival performers, festive illuminations and more!

Brighton Rocks – Lout Promotions Presents a showcase of local bands at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar with THE VALETTAS, BLACK STATE HIGHWAY, THE MICE and IDLEWOOD.

Jackhammer Presents: Alunah + Sea Bastard + In The Hills + King Goat – Four great bands visit The Hope for an evening of doom metal.


Art Deco Fair – 1920′s – 1970′s stalls and furniture at The Hove Centre. Ceramics & studio pottery, glass, figures & figurines, jewellery, vanity and fashion, accessories, bakelite & plastics, chrome, lamps/ lighting, clocks, mirrors, household, pictures/ prints, furniture, dining, occasional, living, books and much more!

Barbara Nice’s Countdown to Christmas!– Join local housewife superstar Mrs Barbara Nice, at Komedia, in a seasonal selection box of fun and frolics! Barbara Nice is the comedy creation of Janice Connolly best known for her role as Holy Mary in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights.

Hush Hush – Brighton’s brand new acoustic night at The White Rabbit. Everybody, everyday, stumbles into a raw talent in Brighton. These are the artists that pass through many ears, and leave tiny foot prints. Here is a night, where you can come to find them.

Niceness – A night of quality reggae music at Riki Tik, picked by resident selectas Asbest, Dj Sinner (King Spinner) & Deano Pressure. Covering all styles ranging from Studio One classics, Ska, Rocksteady, Dub, modern & Roots Revivals, rarities & a few surprises all played in a Reggae party style.
