Cheer up your Weekend (January is nearly over after all) and head out to one of the great events on offer across Brighton and Hove. With comedy, exhibitions, gigs, birthday parties, club nights and drawing sessions.

All Weekend:

Subversive Design – From high fashion to high street consumerism, cheeky ceramics to controversial chairs, provocative lamps to ‘rubbish’ jewellery, this major exhibition at Brighton Museum subverts your preconceptions and challenges your relationship with objects you use on a daily basis.

Full Circle: Exhibition – A playful installation artwork for the ONCA Gallery by Beccy McCray using tens of thousands of ‘hole-punches’ to simulate snow. This physically immersive installation is a reflection on consumption. Also on Saturday there is a ‘Punch Party’ Workshop.

Turner in Brighton – An exhibition in the Prince Regent Gallery, Royal Pavilion centred on our recent acquisition of J M W Turner’s watercolour Brighthelmston, Sussex (1824).

Saturday:

One Inch Badge Present: Connan Mockasin – This Psychedelic pop musician from Te Awanga, New Zealand brings his sounds to The Haunt this Saturday.

Fin Taylor: Work in Progress – Fin Taylor presents a rough idea of what his debut hour show will be. As seen on tour with Russell Howard and Glenn Wool. He thinks it’ll be sort of about epiphanies. Although if I experience any more then this will probably change.

Neon Saints Brass Band – Brighton Based 10 piece brass band take on The Gladstone for a night of dancing and brilliant music! Combining Soul, Hip-Hop and brass culture these guys will sure impress.

The Big Itch 3rd Birthday Party – Join The Big Itch in celebrating 3 years of primitive dance happenings at Green Door Store.

Sunday:

Mixed Pose – Life Drawing Session – Draw runs affordable and flexible drop-in life drawing sessions, at New England House, for all abilities running every week of the year. The Mixed Pose is a life drawing session of short, medium and long poses and with a tea and coffee break half way through.

House Of Trees – After a busy and productive year on the road House Of Trees are following up their critically acclaimed album ‘Painted Gold’ (released January 2013) with a 7 song EP this winter. Also joining the bill is London based modern country/folk songwriter Ryan O Reilly and Conrad Vingoe.

Krater Comedy Club – Award winning comedy every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Eat, drink, watch and laugh as 3 top stand-ups and one of the best MCs on the comedy circuit entertain you. BUY TICKETS HERE.

Soul Casserole – A fab DJ session at the North Laine. DJs Evil Broke Elvis, Dustee Du and Alkie Tuner have a bit of a reputation for making DJing look like it’s one big lark, it’s difficult to tell who is enjoying the night more, the crowd or the DJs.
