If 2012’s summer of sport hasn’t quenched your thirst for world class sporting events then fear not as the start of October will see Brighton play host to the 2012 International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) Taekwon-Do World Cup.

Elite martial artists from across the globe will gather in the city hoping to kick and punch their way to victory at the Brighton Centre from Thursday October 4 – Sunday October 7.

Over 1,600 entrants from across 46 countries will compete in a range of disciplines from technical and skill events to the brand new ‘Power Test Event’, where individuals must break as many boards as possible with only their hands and feet.

Philip Lear, ITF 2012 World Cup organiser and Chairman of Vision TKD England, said: “We are really excited about this year’s event. We won the bid to host the World Cup last year in New Zealand and have been working tirelessly to get everything ready.

“Brighton is a beautiful city with a deep respect for different cultures, so it is the perfect place to showcase Taekwon-Do as the sport teaches competitors respect from an early age.”

A team of martial arts experts gave a great demonstration at the Sussex County Cricket Club on Saturday (September 1). And although they could not avert a Sussex Sharks defeat at the hands of the Hampshire Royals, the display of wood and brick breaking went down a treat.

The city of Brighton will also benefit commercially as thousands of foreign competitors, supporting staff and fans from across the globe flock to the ‘capital by the sea’.

Clubs and associations from across the UK have trained and entered the event and following Team GB’s recent Gold and Bronze medals at London’s 2012 Olympics, there is a record number of entrants for this year’s competition.

Spectator tickets are on sale now with prices ranging from £10 for a day ticket, to £40 for a four day ticket, which includes the final.
