Many of you good Brighton folk have spent time travelling to the far reaches of Asia enjoying and indulging in the intense colours and flavour of life in India, Thailand and Beyond.

Food is a fundamental part of every such journey, and the sensations and stimulation afforded by life away from home can the reason so many people fall in love with the experience.

Sizzling street food in much of Asia is a hugely important part of everyday life, and for many people it’s these most-local of delicacies that provide the most memorable and delightful eating experiences of all.

Experienced chef-of-the-world Lizzie Bett agrees that superb Street Food inspires some of the best eating experiences you can have and this month is bringing a unique Thai Street Food sit-down supper to Brighton institution The Marwood.

Combining the vivacious flavours of Thailand’s famous street food with the unique environment of The Marwood, you will be served your starter as you order at the bar downstairs, then take a seat upstairs for the main course and dessert.

Lizzie’s skill and experience really shows as she creates outstanding and unique dining experiences around inspired menus. Her reputation continues to grow and this promises to be an irresistible and memorable evening.

Ollie_CouillaudA Dining Adventure with Ollie Couillaud

London food legend Ollie Couillaud has serious pedigree. Ex Head Chef of Chez Bruce, The Square, Tom Aitken’s, La Trompette and The Dorchester, he now resides on the South Coast and is working with Brighton stalwart Sam Metcalfe producing some of the most exciting big modern British dishes you can find.

Celebrating the start of a close and ongoing collaboration, Ollie is presenting a very special shared table experience for just 12 lucky diners where he’s presents some of his favourite dishes in a wine-matched set menu, popping up at Sam’s Kemptown bistro this November.

Starting off with a Burgundy Crémant Brut with the amuse-bouche to set off the sensations, you’ll be taken through a selection of perfectly pitched courses. An aromatic Saint Véran accompanies the fish course of seared black bream with fennel purée and a squid vinagerette. This is followed by a full-bodied Barbera to accompany the duck breast and honey-roasted plum main. A seasonal tarte fine of apples is paired with a complex and smooth sauterne to round off the experience.

Ollie’s Skill, his passion for perfection and his desire for diners to explore and be taken on a real journey around the palette, has led him to create such special evenings to show off his talents.

11-14_Scottish-Supper-ClubCookshelf’s Scottish Supper Club

Cookshelf Cook School invite all Brightonians to come and enjoy some of the quirky, educational and social events they’ll be holding over the coming weeks. There’s macaron-making classes (firmly addressing the Macaron vs Macaroon issue) and a sensational Scottish Supper Club.

There’s no deep-fried Mars-bars here, they’ll instead be focussing on the finer things that the Land of the Brave has to offer. Tangy scotch broth, oatmeal-crusted baked salmon and honey and whisky-flavoured raspberries and cream.

There’ll be a glass of bubbles specially selected by local Eastbourne wine merchants, Artisvin but it’s also a BYO affair so you can pick your tipple to suit. (There could also be a wee dram in it for those who might be partial). A relaxed and informal evening of great food, it’s the perfect event to meet other people, come on your own or in a group.
