Brighton Theatre: Our Top Ten Shows for September 2015
With summer proving to be a bit of a washout so far, there is no better time to go to the theatre! Here is our guide to the top ten must see shows this September.
A homegrown Brighton-based comedy troupe, The Spotaniacs are bringing their wacky world of wonder to the gorgeous Dukebox Theatre once again. The entire performance is improvised on the spot and requires much audience participation so have your most weird and wonderful ideas at the ready and be prepared for much silliness and tomfoolery!

This story, of a man claiming to be innocent but imprisoned for murder, examines desperation, injustice and unlikely friendships in a thrilling experience, captivating from start to finish. Featuring two of our finest British actors, Ian Kelsey and Patrick Robinson, this is a must see!

This is a multi award winning production, created by Bryony Kimmings and starring her and Tim Grayburn. It tells the story of a couple and explores depression, men, relationships and real life. Warming, honest and sometimes heartbreaking, this is a true insight into being in love, what it takes to be a ‘real man’ and the mysterious workings of the human brain!

Brighton’s legendary satirical comedy show has had an Autumn overhaul and comes to The Rialto for your pleasure! Featuring topical treats and satirical songs, The Treason Show tackles political issues without pulling any punches, but making you giggle all night at the same time!

Another gem from the fantastic folks at Brighton Little Theatre, Bedroom Farce features four couples and their individual stories, all taking place in three bedrooms. Written by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by Ann Atkins, this play weaves a tangled web and features drama, laughter and a touch of adultery!

Winner of the Tony Awards ‘Triple Crown’ Avenue Q is arguably one of the most hilarious musicals of our time; the witty, crazy, wonderfully inappropriate story of the residents of a New York avenue, including humans, monsters and Gary Coleman! With a hugely talented cast and fantastic puppets, Avenue Q is a heartwarming and hilarious musical and a fabulous night out!

A pick for the kids this month, this explosive one hour production is brought to you by New Mutiny, co created and starring a childhood friend of mine Callum McIntyre, recently graduated from Bristol Old Vic. A beautiful and original score accompanies this Shakespeare classic, bringing his work to the younger generation but equally entertaining adults too! With incredible rave reviews so far, this is one not to be missed.

Be My Baby – The Barn Theatre
From my wonderful friends at The Southwick Players comes their Brighton & Hove Arts Festival entry, Be My Baby. This is the emotional and heartwarming story of 4 young pregnant women in 1964, sent to live in a Mother and Baby home and forced to put their children up for adoption. With something to say but no judgement or preaching, Be My Baby has huge heart and a killer soundtrack!

Rebecca – Theatre Royal
Brought to you by Kneehigh, one of the world’s most celebrated theatre companies, this is the classic story that so many of us know from the book and iconic Alfred Hitchcock film. After the death of his wife, Maxim de Winter returns to Manderley with his new bride. Under the sinister eye of housekeeper Mrs Danvers, she tries to uncover the secrets of Manderley – but does she really want to know?!

A Night At The Hucklebuck – The Old Market
This is a night of wonderful magic, circus, music and comedy, in memory of the fabulous Brighton based entertainer Nathan Zahorchak, who tragically lost his life last year. Featuring a host of special guests, including BGT Finalist Steve Hewlett, Richard Digance and many more fantastic performers, this will be an amazing night with all proceeds donated to Nathan’s wife and four children.
