The last weekend of August is here and the weather seems to have gone almost fully Autumnal in preparation for September but fear not, there are still loads of great things to do in Brighton this Weekend. Here are our highlights with Thai Festivals, heavy metal festivals, art exhibitions, circus, comedy, geeky table top sales, dance, Doctor Who all dayers and free cinema. So forget about the rain and get out there!


All Weekend:

Things to do in Brighton this WeekendMammothfest – 24 bands will smash the stage at Green Door Store this Weekend at the South East’s one and only rock/metal Festival. The event aims to springboard local bands by giving them opportunities to play on big stages with the biggest and best bands in the world. Headliners include Ingested, Martyr Defiled, Savage Messiah, Meta-stasis, Collapse and Mask Of Judas.

Brighton Thai Festival 2014 – Famous for being a ‘land of smiles’ for its delicious food and boisterous night life, the mention of Thailand evokes anything but apathy. Get a taste for this enigmatic nation without leaving the UK at Preston Park this Weekend. Expect Thai food, lady boy shows, living cooking demonstrations, traditional massages, eating competitions, fun fair, fashion show, and Muay Thai boxing coaching.

John Lymer: Deconstruction – Art Schism is proud to present the mixed media, collage work of John Lymer. Lymer, a Brighton based artist, specialises in creating collages that are on the one hand touchingly beautiful, on the other painfully discordant.

Zippos Circus – ‘Unchained’ is the brilliant new 2014 production of ZIPPO’S CIRCUS. You can see Britain’s Favourite Circus at Hove Lawns, Kingsway BN3 2WW (by the King Alfred Leisure Centre) from Thursday 21st August to Tuesday 2nd September. Lee Evans – ‘Monsters’ – Lee Evan’s amazing new show bringing his manic energy, uncanny observations, hilarious delivery and side-splitting material. A must-see for comedy fans worldwide, Lee’s new show will spend over 50 nights in the biggest arenas in the country and will be playing to more fans than ever on this hotly anticipated tour of the UK and Ireland.


Saturday:

As you’d expect there will ample opportunity to load up on all things blister packed, limited edition and rare as rocking-horse shoes in our table top sale, but it’s not just a market. Geek Central is also the perfect place to meet new friends, try new games and play some friendlies with your mates.

New Movement Collective: Casting Traces – Dance, architecture, film and specially commissioned music meet to create a world of illusion, mystery and shadow play, where nothing is as it seems. Inspired by Paul Auster’s seminal novel, The New York Trilogy, this promenade performance invites the audience into a unique dance experience set within a paper labyrinth at Circus Street Market.

Phunktroplis Beach Party – Celebrating the near end of summer with a beach party special. Prizes for best beach themed dress attire, beach themed cocktails, beach bar deco & Funky breaks, Ghetto funk, Recgrooves, hip hop, electro blues, electro swing & party jams with Kool Hertz.

Sunday:

Things to do in Brighton this WeekendTimey Wimey Event 2 – A day of Doctor Who related fun and frolics featuring Janet Fielding who played Tegan Jovanka, assistant to the Fourth and Fifth Doctor as the Guest of Honour plus The Big Doctor Who Quiz (Do you know your Autons from your Zarbi?) and ‘I Need a Doctor’-The Doctor Who Musical returns following it’s award winning tour.

Brighton Music Variety – The best up and coming bands from the biggest variety of genres in any one gig. There will be everything from soft acoustic melodies, to the aggressive noise of electro punk, to provide you with a full night of entertainment. With music from The Big Bads + String-Theory + Crime Scene, Yeah! + Come The Spring + Another Happy Landing + Alice Le-Galloudec.

Clocktower CinemaFree cinema every Sunday for a chilled out afternoon at The Quadrant. This month has seen a run of films from the great Spanish Director, Producer and Writer Guillermo Del Toro, the final in the series ‘The Devils Backbone’ plays this Weekend. After Carlos, a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War, arrives at an ominous boy’s orphanage he discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets that he must uncover.
