Ignore the impending Autumnal chill for a little longer and get out and about with our pick of the great things to do in Brighton this Weekend. There’s loads to do with the annual Lantern Fayre, fuzzy exhibitions, Brighton Photo Biennial, arts and crafts festivals, Volkswagen runs, handmade markets, vintage fairs, sketch comedy, live music, club nights and dance extravaganzas.

Things to do in Brighton this WeekendLantern Fayre – Taking place on the Level, this 3-day arts, music and literature festival centers on the turning of the seasons and the themes and stories of harvest. The Lantern Fayre combines cinema, literature,  arts and crafts, story telling, theatre, puppetry, great food and drink, a night market, children’s entertainment, circus skills workshops, a harvest feast, and some of Brighton’s best live music.

Cornershop-by-the-Sea – Lucy sparrow’s cornershop-by-the-sea is an art show truly worth making a fuzz about….. the fluffiest, furriest shopping experience imaginable. Over 4,000 handmade felt versions of familiar grocery items – from fish fingers and cans of spam to sanitary towels and newspapers, rocket ice-lollies and oven chips to ciggies, veggies, and what is most certainly the softest loo roll ever manufactured.

Brighton Photo Biennial – The UK’s largest international photography festival, returns for its sixth edition. For BPB14expect a host of regional, national and international collaborations with a series of new projects on the theme of Communities, Collectives & Collaboration. BPB14 embraces novel perspectives and fresh approaches to generate commissions, new work and represent archive material.

Craft in the Woods –  Two days of arts, crafts and music hosted by the Stanmer Organics community. A family event focused on exhibiting local artisans work, educational workshops, talks and environmentally sustainable living. Adventure and sculpture trails lead you through 17.5 acres of community projects focused on education in traditional skills and eco living, offering free have a go work shops and activities for all ages.

Brighton Breeze – An annual run for all Volkwagen camper van enthusiasts dedicated to the preservation, love, care and enjoyment of the pre-1967 VW van. While camper vans predominate, there is also a selection of other VW machines, such as beetle cars, a caravan, and even a German post office van has been seen. Virtually the whole history of the VW camper van will be there to be explored!

One Inch Badge Presents: Kosheen – Since their debut two decades ago, Kosheen have been injecting some underground cred into the popular music charts. Their sound is a combination of trip hop, dub, bass and breakbeats that has spawned four albums and countless singles. After many years, plenty of hits and hugely influential shows all over the world, this Bristol group are still right at the sharp end of electronic music. 

Warehouse Presents: Erol Alkan & Ghost Culture –  Erol Alkan is the guy who has kept the kids dancing since the early naughties and has remained on the forefront of the British underground movement ever since. With Erol hot of the heels of his recent addition to the Fabric Live series, expect the he man to be on-point as ever, and if that wasn’t enough we have joining him Phantasy’s most exciting signee, Ghost Culture.


Things to do in Brighton this WeekendBrighton Vintage and Antiques Market The new Market opens its doors on Sunday 5th October and will take over the plaza at the newsly refurbished Open Market with over 40 stall holders from all over Brighton, Lewes and London. By bringing together some of Brighton’s best dealers and those from further afield, BVAM hopes it will create a new monthly get together and ‘must-go-to’ event for all things vintage and antique.
