Best Things To Do This Weekend Brighton 5th – 6th December 2015
As a great Twitter user once said “People wait all week for Friday. All year for summer. All their life for happiness” … Well, there’s definitely several reasons to be holding your breath for this weekend ! In our ‘Best Things To Do This Weekend Brighton 5th – 6th December 2015’ you can expect an extraordinary advent calendar, Father Christmas, a mountainous climb, Caro Emerald, the long awaited Small Business Saturday, the even longer awaited Public Enemy and even more exciting events.
Beach Hut Advent Calendar
The beach huts along Hove seafront are a much-loved sight all year round and their owners take pride in making them eye catching. Throughout December some of them will be getting a new look as part of a very special life-sized advent calendar. For the last nine years, 24 huts have thrown open their doors for one day during December to reveal specially decorated and festive creations. The event has become very popular and has the added bonus of a ‘true meaning of Christmas’ vibe. It is also great fun since some of the owners even put on quizzes and stage performances and you get to see something different everyday.
Christmas at Churchill Square Shopping Centre
The Christmas spirit awakens this weekend at Churchill Square Shopping Centre. You can expect festive decorations, longer opening hours and loads of activities for children at this year’s Christmas Grotto. Father Christmas will be making an appearance in his kitchen whilst preparing a giant Christmas Pudding. Play spot the Pudding, join in the colouring-in zone, play with puzzles, plus many more games along the way. Besides, the entry for the Christmas Grotto also includes an entry gift and a photo with Santa himself!
Arena: Night and Day
Arena: Night and Day is a 24-hour visual journey that follows the pattern of day and night in sync with British wintertime. Drawn exclusively from Arena’s rich and varied archive of over 600 films, the series has featured the most significant cultural figures (high and low) of our time including Nelson Mandela, Orson Welles, and The Beatle. The first gallery introduces the series and its subjects and the second gallery presents the entire 24-hour sequence that can be viewed from the street at all hours. Presented by CINECITY in partnership with BBC Arena and the Series Editor, Anthony Wall and the University of Brighton.
Since the release of her 2010 multi-platinum debut album ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ Caro Emerald has fashioned her own niche, blending retro jazz with sampling and modern pop to create a signature sound. With more than 2.5 million record sales, 40 million YouTube views, a host of awards and a string of sold out tours and performances at festivals throughout Europe including Glastonbury and Isle of Wight, Caro will be sure to tear up the Dome this Saturday.
Small Business Saturday will be celebrated all across the UK including, of course, Brighton, with activities and events across the city. Designed to support, inspire and promote small business all year round, it’s especially important as a large number of businesses in our city are small independents. Started in America, Small Business Saturday has now also been adopted by the UK and is a great initiative to remind everyone of the value of buying local, not just on Small Business Saturday, but everyday of the year. #smallbizsatuk
