The weekend is fast approaching and although there are a few clouds predicted don’t let that stop you from getting out and along to some of our pick of the best things to do this weekend in Brighton. Whether you fancy cooling down at Paddle Round the Pier or heading out to Stanmer House for the beer festival we’ve got it covered, enjoy!
Paddle Round the Pier – Paddle Round the Pier, the world’s biggest free beach and water sports festival, is making a splash in Brighton this July once again! The weekend will be a blend of water-based activities, live music and on-land entertainment. Growing in popularity each year from the original Paddle Round the Pier in 1997, the event now attracts up to 55,000 visitors a year, but its mission remains the same: to “spread a little aloha spirit” on Brighton beach.
Stanmer House Beer Festival – Enjoy a slice of southern hospitality at the Stanmer House Independence Day Beer Festival: delicious ales, fruity ciders, a big barbeque, & lots of live music, all while soaking up the Stanmer sunshine!
The festival is free to enter, and is guaranteed to be a great event for all the family.
Matt Smith solo show ‘Trouble with History’ – Brighton artist Matt Smith will present a brand new body of work during his solo show at Ink_d in July. Four and a half years in the making, ‘Trouble with History’ will feature a selection of tapestry artworks, which explore issues of identity and queerness.
The Magical Machines of Rowland Emett – Quirky automata, magical mechanical contraptions from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and fabulous flying machines are among the whimsical and wonderful inventions of Rowland Emett at this exhibition at Hove Museum.
‘Tidal Rhythm’ an exhibition by Trevor Scobie – Brighton born artist Trevor Scobie is showing his latest offering of hyper-real paintings, a body of work titles ‘Tidal Rhythm’. Each piece falls within the coastal theme, highlighting how a lifetime near the sea has influenced the artist’s work. The intricate detail in these paintings will have the viewer struggling to believe they’re not photos.
The Synergy Centre Launch Weekend – Join the launch party celebration for this unique and wonderful project and welcome them to their new home in Brighton! Entertainment includes Dreadzone Sound System Mixmaster Morris and West African Drumming and Dance Workshops.

Orchestra Of Samples – The new performance by electronic duo and audio/video remix pioneers Addictive TV. A unique project based on sampling recording sessions the duo filmed with more than 200 musicians around the world, creating a digital supergroup of international artists who have never met.
One Inch Badge Presents The Go! Team – The sound of the Go! Team, a six-piece group from Brighton, is a stunning blend of indie rock guitars, police show themes, hip-hop beats, and schoolyard chants built on samples and then augmented by live instrumentation.
IndepenDANCE Day! English Disco Lovers FREE Beach Party! – After selling out the Spiegeltent for both Bank Holiday Sundays in May, The English Disco Lovers return to the Fortune of War on Brighton Seafront! This year they are raising money for Brighton Voices in Exile charity, so get down early!

Lets Go Camping – Snapper Jaxx – Snapper Jaxx is Churchill Square Shopping Centre’s free kid’s club, taking place on the first Sunday of every month, from 11am until 4pm. There will be live shows, storytelling, songs, adventure play, craft sessions and much more. No booking required, simply come along on the day and have loads of fun! Suitable for ages 3 to 11 years.

Featuring members of Noah and the Whale: Matt Owens & the Delusional Vanity Project + Tom Figgins & Band – Matt Owens is a British singer-songwriter and musician, who came to prominence as one of the founder members of indie-folk band Noah and the Whale, and for fronting Rock’n’Roll band Little Mammoths. London’s Tom Figgins’ years of relentless gigging and song-writing have paid off – he has just been signed by Nick Stewart & Associates, the man who signed U2 to Island Records. Expect an earthy blend of acoustic folk rock.
