The festive season is now upon us; a time of fun, joy and merriment for most… but for those with young children, this time of year is likely to bring about feelings of dread, horror and all-round bah-humbugness from just simply hearing the words “School Holidays”

Thinking about how you will entertain the kids (whilst also maintaining your own sanity) during their two weeks off may be enough to send you into panic mode, but never fear! We’ve compiled a handy guide to some of the top Christmas holiday events for families Brighton you won’t want to miss if you are struggling for ideas on surviving the holidays this Christmas.

The aquatic creatures at the Sea Life aquarium along Marine Parade are also getting into the festive spirit, with a special “12 Days of Fishmas” season.

Children will have the chance to hear what the fish will be eating for their Christmas dinner, spot the underwater Christmas decorations and even have the opportunity to feed the sea turtles some Brussel sprouts.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the magnificent Royal Pavilion comes the annual ice rink, a perfect way to embrace the Christmas spirit and also a great means to entertain the little-uns.

A child-friendly “beginner’s zone” is perfect for ages 3 and up, with the smallest skate size 25, and even specially designed penguin-shaped skate aids which, to be honest, I wish were socially acceptable for adults to use…

Let the kids enjoy themselves whilst you sit back and relax at one of the many food and drink stalls, or take to the ice with them – just don’t be embarrassed when you realise that your children are actually far more skilled skaters than you.

It just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without a good panto, and this year there’s an excellent range to choose from that will appeal to kids of all ages.

Aladdin at the Emporium is guaranteed to mesmerize both kids and adults with the incredible costumes and tunes. Relive the classic tale of Scrooge in A Christmas Carol (who many parents may be able to relate to after a few days at home with the kids), family favourites like The Ugly Duckling, and the unique captivating puppet show Pitschi, The Kitten with Dreams.

Most of these shows run even after Christmas too, in the dark space between Christmas and the first day back at school, so you are sure to find ways to keep them entertained right up until the end.

Need a place to drop the kids off so you can have some time to yourself to enjoy some mulled wi…erm, I mean do some more Christmas shopping?

Well look no further than this Disney-themed holiday club, aimed at ages 4-10. Running for two days, B Starz will have children singing and dancing along to all the classics, making crafts, and even meeting their favourite characters in person. You may almost feel that you want to stay and take part in it yourself! Almost.

B Starz also runs regular term time singing, dancing and acting after schools classes too.
