Celebrate the last proper month of Summer by getting along to some of these great cheap and free things to do in Brighton, go along, have a great time AND you can start saving for Christmas presents with the extra money you’ll save (only joking…sort of!) With a huge variety of events with exhibitions, DJ’s, reading festivals, dog shows, charity parties, fashion shows, Brunswick Festival, live music, drawing classes and even a Thai festival!

Supermarket Sweep: a Solo Exhibition by Ben Frost – No Walls Gallery

Free things to do in BrightonA long awaited UK solo show by Australian pop artist, Ben Frost. Ben Frost is a visual and consumerist ‘scavenger’, fusing found imagery with the discarded packaging of our fast-food lifestyles, he creates unique and often confronting re-workings of the products we love and hate on our supermarket shelves.

Audio Presents…Subb-an!Audio

Audio Presents welcomes Subb-an to grace the decks. After a sell out gig with local party crew Moody Disco in July of last year, they’re looking forward to having the underground icon back at the club.  With an array of sublime releases on prolific labels including the likes Visionquest, Crosstown Rebels, Spectral, Hot Creations, Saved and 2020 Vision, Subb-an has seen a natural rise to prominence.

Brighton’s Big Summer Read 2014 – Churchill Square Shopping Centre

A free two-weeks of summer holiday fun devoted to all things books. Churchill Square is pleased to announce an impressive list of authors confirmed for their Big Summer Read 2014, beginning on Friday 8th August. The authors will be taking part in a whole host of readings, book singings and special events.

Free things to do in BrightonRural Day & Scruffs Dog ShowSt. Ann’s Well Gardens

Free fun for all! 24 market stalls, including conservation & charity information, handcrafts, artist cards, a tombola, children’s clothes, fruit, herbs, children’s books plus a retro van with frozen desserts as well as home bakes & drinks from the lovely tea tent . Willowisp, the family & children’s area will be making crafty things & we also ‘have a go’ felt-making & mosaics & an eco puppet show too. Petting animals include Guide dogs, chicken & bugs too! Of course the star event is the totally barking Scruffs Dog show.

Ditch the Label – Summer Calling Above Audio

So it is apparently now summer and to celebrate we’re having a party (any excuse, eh?). Not just any old party, this is the first ever Ditch the Label party. Rock up to our beach party inspired bash for an evening of live entertainment, food and some fantastic adult beverages and all for a great cause. For one night only, we’ll be taking over Above Audio in Brighton and transforming it into a beach inspired paradise.

Guerrilla III – Charity Fashion ShowEmporium

Brighton’s premier exhibition for undiscovered talent and the hottest designers in the city. This years theme is “Up With Liberty, Down With Chains”, a theme that reflects our desire to inspire people to reassess their ideas of what fashion is and what fashion CAN be. All proceeds go to The Clock Tower Sanctuary who provide information, advice and support to young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who are homeless or insecurely housed.

A fun filled family weekend of live music, dj’s, dance groups, circus skills, healing area, children’s activities, arts and crafts.  A bustling market area with bric-a-brac, home made goods, vintage clothes, charity information stands and other wonderful stalls galore.  A world food area with tasty delights and healthy snacks. A tea tent with the best home made cakes on earth! The ‘Brunswick Tavern’ tent with real ale, cider, wine, beer and Pimms. Plus the popular Willowisp children’s area is expanding this year offering hands-on arts and crafts for all ages: circus skills, balloon art , puppet and magic shows too! Bands include: Peter And The Test Tube Babies, Red Raucus, The Blackfields, The Tatsmiths, Mind of a Lion.

A day long showcase of live music and DJ talent from Sam Brothers, Songs of Seduction, Harry and Zeno, Porridge Radio, Mad Kid Library Trap, Satanic Ritual Abuse, Rainslicker, BIG CHIEF YELLA TEETH, Soph Nathan, Wader, A House in The Trees, O. Chapman, Lizzard Bleach and Narrow Boat. Plus other greatness from film makers, artists, fashion designers, record labels and delicious eats from Harry and Kane’s Cookfest extravaganza.

The Drawing Circus: Hindu DeitiesThe Old Market

This month’s Drawing Circus event is themed around Hindu Deities. We will be exploring the world’s ‘oldest religion’ and using inspiration from its Indian origins to create a unique and richly coloured drawing evening. Each month The Drawing Circus brings sociable drawing extravaganzas to the TOM Bar. These friendly and informal themed life drawing session are open to all abilities and complete beginners are very welcome. Several nude and costumed models hold long and short poses throughout the night.

Brighton Thai Festival 2014Preston Park

Famous for being a ‘land of smiles’, for its delicious food, and a, how shall we put this…boisterous night life, the mention of Thailand evokes anything but apathy. Get a taste for this enigmatic nation without leaving the UK at Thai Festival Brighton held in Preston Park. Soak up the atmosphere of the rice harvest festival season during a day filled with Thai food, lady boy shows, living cooking demonstrations, traditional massages, and eating competitions. Young ones will also be kept busy with a fun fair, fashion show, and Muay Thai boxing coaching.
