Christmas is over and done with (I know, I know…i’m sorry!) but never fear because Brighton is awesome no matter what time of year it is! I’m guessing you’re feeling the penny pinch this month so here’s our top free things to do in Brighton in January 2015 with everything from exhibitions to club nights. Ocean BluesFree Things to do in Brighton in January 2015 Brighton Museum

From marine conservation zones to changes in fishing, and recycling programmes, we are now beginning to change the way we treat the seas. This display looks at some of the threats to life in the oceans as well as initiatives designed to reduce or reverse the impact modern society has had on this precious environment.

Ska Jamaica!Black Dove

Dig out your best dancing shoes, folks and come shake, swing, stomp & SKA SKA SKA the night away at our vintage jump party… every first Friday of the month at The Black Dove, Brighton! Enjoy an audio cocktail of the finest Jamaican musical sunshine + good-time / old-time party vibes as we storm through a stompin’ selection of ’60’s ska scorchers!

Brighton Vintage and Antiques MarketBrighton Open Market

The Brighton Vintage and Antiques Market (BVAM) takes over the plaza at the newly refurbished Open Market every month with over 40 stall holders from all over Brighton, Lewes and London creating a new monthly get together and ‘must-go-to’ event for all things vintage and antique.

GDS Presents: Joel PeterGreen Door Store

A naturally melodic writer at heart, Joel Peter pens commercially appealing “Afro-Folk”; a blend of the acoustic guitar attached singer-songwriter folk and sun bleached guitars on contrapuntal rhythms. With older artists such as Nick Drake and John Martyn and then newer ones such as Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club all listed as influences, it’s no suprise that Joel Peter sounds as they do.

Fabrica Film ForumFabrica

Fabrica and Brighton Film School have created a monthly screening and discussion event for young people passionate about films and filmmaking. Get along if you’re a filmmaker, aspiring critic, actor or just love watching films.

West Pier Art Exhibition Jubilee Library

This show, by Brighton based artist Maria Kuipers, reflects on her experience of the changes to Brighton West Pier and i360 redevelopments. Her work uses mixed media and paint and includes some collaborative work with another local artist. There will also be documentation of the whole process, including photographs and sketchbooks, and images from the public workshops.

I Love 80s vs I Love 90sFunkyfish Club

Dance floor fillers, Resident DJ AKY spins the best 80s / 90s, Chart, Dance, Pop every Friday night at the legendary Funkyfish Club with two rooms and two bars. Alongside great tunes, we have free entry and awesome drink promos every single Friday night!

Another free entry day festival packed full of glittering talent. With live music from the likes of O.Chapman, Our Girl, Porridge Radio, Sam Brothers and The Gentry Underground, DJ’s including Jafr0 (and more) plus poetry readings to get your brains pumping a variety of short films throughout the day from Karass film collective and food from Kane and Harry’s Cookfest Extravaganza.
