Cheap and Free Things to do in Brighton in July
Hooray it’s actually Summer (well for now anyway) and Brighton is bursting with events to tickle your fancy. Check out our pick of the best cheap and free things to do in Brighton in July so you can have a great time and still have enough money for a couple of pints in one of our favourite beer gardens. There’s everything from free beach cinema to beer festivals and Mermaid marches to Pier paddles and everything in between!
Brighton’s Big Screen – Seafront Near Volks Railway
Free beach cinema? Yes please! Big Screen returns for 2014 with a selection of great films alongside the biggest sporting events including Wimbledon and the World Cup all on Brighton Seafront. Plus great food and drink stalls serving up frozen margaritas, delicious Mexican food and big eats from MEATLiquor. If sitting on the pebbles gets uncomfortable upgrade your ticket to VIP for a seat in the grandstand and free popcorn!

Brighton Sand Sculpture Festival 2014 – Black Rock Site, Madeira Drive
40 sculptures made out of 3000 tonnes of sand carved by a total of 16 sculptors from around the world within a 9 day period! From April until the end of September, visitors can experience these magical sand sculptures and will also have the chance to get involved. Sand sculpture workshops, live demonstrations, unique photo opportunities, a children’s sand pit, café, gift shop and much more will be on offer. This year’s theme is ‘Around the World…In Sand’.

Stanmer House Beer Festival – Stanmer House
This July Stanmer House brings to you their American Independence Day Beer and Music Festival. Following on from the success of last year’s Pride and Prejudice beer and music festival, Stanmer House are proud to be hosting a weekend full of beer, music, good food and fun for all the family. The free event is open to one and all, dogs too if they’re part of the family.

Paddle Round the Pier – Hove Lawns/West Pier
Brighton’s favourite & the world’s largest free charity beach festival “Paddle Round The Pier” returns to Hove Lawns this July. A packed Weekend of live music, food, entertainment, kids activities and of course the annual Paddle Round the Pier where participants paddle their way around the West Pier on a variety of rafts ranging from small tennis courts to actual cars and it’s all for Charity too!

Brighton Racecourse Car Boot Sales – Brighton Racecourse
Whether you’re having a Summer clear out or looking for that hidden Ming vase someone is selling for 50p, get along to Brighton Racecourse and relax in the sunshine in glorious surroundings whilst you browse the huge variety of bargains on offer. If once isn’t enough it’s on every week!

Brighton Kite Festival – Stanmer Park
One of the longest running kite festivals in the UK returns as it fast approaches its 36th consecutive event! Witness kites of all shapes, colours and sizes plus amazing shows from world class flyers of all forms of kites with beautifully made miniature single line kites through some of the best team displays you will ever see.

Edinburgh Comedy Previews 2014 – The Old Market, Komedia & Upstairs at Three and Ten
Edinburgh is fast approaching and there is a wealth of talented Comedians just itching to show you what they’ve made before they make the long journey up North. The Old Market, Komedia and Upstairs at Three and Ten have a great range of Comedy previews featuring the likes of Imran Yusuf ([Edinburgh Best Newcomer Nominee), Lucy Porter (Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Mock the Week) and Romesh Ranganathan (Russell Howard’s Good News, Comedy Central).

Doggy Pride 2014 – Hove Rugby Club
Celebrate our four-legged best friends with a day of fun and barking frolics, as dogs and dog lovers come together and shine with Pride. In association with Coastway Veterinary Group and The Dogs Trust, Doggy Pride 2014 at Hove RFC, Shirley Drive, Hove will feature awards for numerous categories, retail stalls, a glamorous catwalk doggy fashion show as well as a bar and refreshments.

Cabaret Boheme – Funfair Club
“Veronica Blacklace” who ended the Brighton Fringe festival with her phenomenal sell out show, brings her troop of circus, cabaret and burlesque performers back to Funfair Club this June for one of the best shows Brighton has to offer transforming Funfair into an intimate speakeasy type venue where you can will get up close and personal. Brighton Yoga Festival – St. George’s Church
Stretch it out this Summer with this spectacular day long festival of free yoga workshops and related activities with some of the best local and not-so-local yoga teachers and practitioners. Plus there will be creative stalls to browse as well as a yoga fashion show, a cafe, exciting yoga demonstrations and live music and arts. All proceeds from donations will be going to two local charities

March of the Mermaids 2014 – Meet at Hove Peace Statue
Ahoy m’hearties! Come aboard for the second March of the Mermaids! A parade to celebrate our seas and to raise awareness of marine conservation. The march is not just for mermaids! Mermen, sea creatures, pirates, sailors and all forms of sea life are invited to take part! A day out for all the family to take part in. Marching along Hove and Brighton Sea Front the march ends with a ‘Fin-ale’ after-party at Above Audio from 4pm – 8pm where prizes will be given for the best costumes plus don’t miss the after-after party at Fortune of War from 8.30pm – late.

Pride Rainbow Run – Preston Park
Forget saturday night Fever, this is your Sunday morning disco workout, so pump up the jam and Let’s get physical! Get ready Disco Diva’s as Brighton Pride’s fun run and community sports Day and picnic arrives in style this Summer. Chuck on some lycra and leg warmers and troll along to Preston Park to check out the talented totty and buff bods as they mince around a variety of camp courses. Other events include bears tug of war, drag racing and five a side football.
