With the General Election fast approaching we thought we’d create a guide to all of the election related events happening across the Brighton and Hove featuring everything from comedy to debates!
The Big Election Business Debate
Your opportunity to question Prospective Parliamentary Candidates from the Brighton Pavilion Constituency about the business issues that matter in the run up to the General Election on May 7.
Chaired by Keith Ridley – the well known Media Executive – you will have the opportunity to hear what local politicians will do for business in your local area – especially if they become your MP.

2015 Election Time Debate
Who Should Represent Pavilion Constituency as our next MP? A chance for Brighton University Students to put their questions to the Pavilion Constituency candidates from the four main parties
Which political party best represents the interests of the university? Are you worried about the future of the National Health Service? Is more austerity a political necessity? Should students pay fees? Is their really a crisis of immigration? Should Britain leave the EU?

Austerity Pleasures Pre-Election Special
Making political and topical jokes this month are: Joe Wells – Joe wowed the crowds with his show ‘Night Of The Living Tories’, come see him preview his new show ’10 Things I hate about UKIP’. Phil Alexander – Phil performs some satirical songs for you. Russ Mulligan – Russ’ Fringe show ‘Democracy Is Broken’ was a delight, he’s very exciting young satirist. Resident act Dan Wright – Dan will have his take on the month’s news. The headliner is Tiernan Douieb – You may know him from Twitter or his ‘Partly Political Broadcast’ shows. He also recently had his back shaved by Gillian Anderson (X-Files) for charity.

Treason Productions and Rialto Theatre presents: The Treason Show: Election Special!
Written by a team of over 40 writers and performed by a team of multi-talented sketch performers, The Treason Show continues to wow it’s audiences with its fast-moving, gag-a-minute sketch show which since the show’s premier in June 2000, has become a Brighton institution. Now the Treason Show bring us their take on the General Election, now in it’s 15th year and nicely settled into their brand new home, The Rialto Theatre.

Vladimir McTavish presents: Vote? You’re F***ing Joking!

Election 2015: How was it for you?
Introduced by Ali Smith and chaired by Polly Toynbee – the Guardian’s political columnist and author of Cameron’s Coup. Joined by leading politicians on a panel including the director of Liberty and author Shami Chakrabarti and the chief political columnist of The Independent Steve Richards they will dissect, digest and debate the General Election which will have taken place just two days earlier. Has the result been good for Britain? How has the political landscape changed? What can we expect from the government over the course of the next five years? Sussex Labour Representation Committee presents: Do Public Services have a Future?
Austerity has devastated public services and increased inequality. The Coalition turned a global financial crisis caused by corporate and personal greed into an ideological attack on public services, pay and pensions. As even the OECD says, the UK must redistribute wealth to boost our economy. Join John McDonnell MP, Mark Serwotka (PCS) and Laura Watson (English Collective of Prostitutes) to discuss how we stop the new government treading the same old path on pay and the public sector.

Whatever the election results, with no real economic recovery under austerity, what will Labour do for us? Join Jeremy Corbyn MP, Nancy Platts (hopefully Labour’s new MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven) and Matt Wrack (FBU) to discuss the major changes Labour can bring about by insisting on increased public investment and wealth redistribution. Everyone will benefit from restoring our communities, public services, welfare state, NHS and economy. We must ensure Labour makes our votes count.

Sussex Labour Representation Committee presents: Let’s Build the Houses – Quick!
Local housing stock is old, insufficient and often of poor quality, while strong demand means we suffer some of the highest private rents and house prices in the country. Can we build our way out or do local land shortages mean we need different solutions? What should we demand from our elected representatives? Is it effective to take direct action ourselves? Join Michael Meacher MP and Saskia O’Hara (Focus E15) to discuss the housing crisis. Housing is a basic need for all. It must be met.
