We know during this glorious weather you might just be tempted to lay on the beach and bake but don’t waste your Weekend like that when you can head along to all of the great events that are happening in our round-up of the best things to do in Brighton this Weekend 26th – 27th July! There’s exhibitions, sand sculpture, yoga festivals, mermaid marches, Charity cabaret, live music, club nights, rainbow runs, non-religious Sunday services and even a little bit of theatre.
All Weekend –
‘Parallels’ Exhibition – An exhibition centred around the theme of the Rorschach inkblot tests, a set of mirrored random inkblots which psychiatrists would show to their patients and ask them to describe what they saw. From this, the psychiatrist would diagnose a patient’s psychopathy/psychology. Artist Sarah Shaw hopes to evoke a sense of ‘humanness’, be it through an emotional connection , shared thoughts around our universal experience of living through time, or in relation to mental, bodily or worldly restrictions.
Into the Blue – Explore science, history and art around the theme of blue in this family-friendly exhibition. Learn some fascinating facts like why certain plants have evolved to be blue, and what exactly did the ancient Britons paint themselves with? Discover the story of the evolution of vision, why some creatures only see certain colours and what happens to a scorpion under ultra-violet light.
Raumzeichnung (Reflection) – Monika Grzymala – With her expansive spatial drawings, Monika Grzymala has developed a unique, unusual approach to contemporary drawing and installation art. Raumzeichnung (Reflection), the work she is creating site specifically for Fabrica will use more than eight kilometers of silver-mirrored tape to transform, re-imagine and re-draw Fabrica’s interior.
Brighton Sand Sculpture Festival – From April until the end of September, visitors can experience the wonder of this magical art and will also have the chance to get involved. Sand sculpture workshops, live demonstrations, unique photo opportunities, a children’s sand pit, café, gift shop and much more will be on offer.
Brighton Yoga Festival – A one day free festival in the heart of Kemptown bringing together the wider yoga community for a spectacular day of free yoga workshops and related activities with the best local and not-so-local yoga teachers and practitioners. In addition to the workshops there will be creative stalls, a yoga fashion show, a cafe, exciting yoga demonstrations, live music and arts. All proceeds will be going to two local charities.
March of the Mermaids 2014 – Come aboard and join us for the second March of the Mermaids! Mermen, sea creatures, pirates, sailors and all forms of sea life are invited to take part! A day out for all the family to take part in meeting at Hove Lawns to march along the seafront to the ‘Fin-ale’ after-party at Above Audio where there will be prizes for the favourite costumes and the crowning of our QUEEN MERMAID and KING PRAWN 2014!
Charity Cabaret Fundraiser for Brighton Pride – A fully inclusive LGBTQ night of fabulous comedy and music, with an outstanding array of acts:

Pride Rainbow Run – The inaugural 5k Pride Rainbow Run takes place on Sunday 27th July on Preston Park. Forget 118 118, this discotastic fun run will be full of fun and kitsch glamour. Get ready Disco Diva’s as Brighton Pride’s fun run and community sports Day and picnic is coming this Summer. Chuck on some lycra and leg warmers and troll along to Preston Park and join the talented totty as they mince around a variety of camp courses.
Sunday Assembly Brighton – Sunday Assembly Brighton is a non-religious congregation. Our services celebrate life and the universe we live in and explore some of the wonderful things that make us human. Our monthly services are held on the 4th Sunday of every month. There are interesting talks, inspiring readings, cheesy pop songs and tea & cake. Services are free and inclusive.

Pink Fringe presents: Beating McEnroe – New solo show from award-winning theatre maker Jamie Wood. With the help of his audience, amongst vivid, surprising images, Jamie performs a cathartic ritual. It is about rivalry and love and how they can both better us and destroy us.
