Hooray for sunny days! Let’s hope they last! Summertime in Brighton is full of great events to enjoy so we’ve rounded up our pick of the best things to do in Brighton this Weekend for you to choose from. With Paddle Round the Pier, beer festivals, free beach cinema, the World Cup, theatre inside and outdoors, sports festivals, exhibitions, crafty arty fairs, colourful festivals of music and dance, bric-a-brac sales, live music and vintage fairs.


All Weekend:

Paddle Round the Pier – The world’s largest free charity beach festival “Paddle Round The Pier” returns to Brighton! A Weekend packed with live music, entertainment and kids activities and of course not forgetting the “Paddle Something Unusual” where teams have to think of the most ridiculous thing they can – then try to paddle it round the pier! 

Stanmer House Beer Festival – Stanmer House brings to you their American Independence Day Beer and Music Festival. Following on from the success of last year’s Pride and Prejudice beer and music festival, Stanmer House are proud to be hosting a weekend full of beer, music, good food and fun for all the family. The free event is open to one and all, dogs too if they’re part of the family.

Big Screen returns for 2014 to its seaside home near the Brighton Wheel with a host of great films and sporting events on offer. This Weekend enjoy Kids Club, the F1, Wimbledon and the World Cup.

Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim – An ambivalent Cinderella. A blood-thirsty Little Red Riding-hood. A Prince Charming with a roving eye and a witch who… raps? They’re all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s fractured fairy tale.

TAKEPART 2014A fantastic two week showcase of hundreds events, activities and taster sessions across the city. Growing as the largest celebration of community sport and physical activity in the country, it will be crammed full of great opportunities for you, your family and friends to have fun and get active together in Brighton & Hove.

Unlimited Summertime Show – A joint show of new work by Bristol-based Paul Farrell and Lucie Sheridan which will include a range of their limited edition prints, stationery and textiles. Lucie’s work focuses on the traditional British summer by the sea. Candy floss, fish and chips and ice cream parlours are just some of her subject matter. Paul’s distinct graphic approach identifies nature in bloom and familiar fairground forms.


Saturday:

Makers Boutique –  Handmade markets featuring the very best of Brighton and beyond! A fabulous mix of brand new faces and regular favourites selling a vast range of arts and crafts including original artwork, home wares, photography, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, fashion, glass and an amazing cafe run by the tasty and fabulous Betsy’s Bake and Brownies by Brighton Brownie Company! Also don’t miss their MEGA Exhibition at Brighton Fishing Quarter.

Thousands of people, preferably dressed in white, will come together to share music, dance, performance art and visual stimulation. Colours are the most joyous part of the Holi celebrations.

Junkaholic Table Top SaleLike a boot sale but inside so it doesn’t matter if it rains! Get along to Knoyle Hall for a rummage through a range of stalls selling clothes, books, toys, bric-a-brac, clothes, frames and ornaments. Also take a break in the cafe serving coffee and cakes.

Streetfunk presents Straight Up ’14 – Featuring a headline performance by very special guests RUFF DIAMOND. Back for the 6th year running, Streetfunk’s annual sell-out youth Hip Hop dance showcase brings to you the City’s freshest talent alongside breathtaking guest acts and a headline performance to blow you away.


Sunday:

Yellow Vintage Fair – A fun-packed day with a lovely vintage vibe. Stalls selling a huge spectrum of all things retro and vintage. There will be live music all day from Catballou, an Americana roots band alongside vintage caravans, Lambrettas and classic cars. For the children there’s a funfair. The Vintage Hair Lounge and Freddie V’s Pop Up Barber Shop will be creating some stunning vintage hairstyles for guys and gals.

Featuring Mozart String divertimento in D major K136, Five or six corridors for piano trio ‘Several endings for piano’ and Mozart Concerto No.12 A minor K385

Shakespeare In The Park: Macbeth – Enjoy traditional outdoor theatre with Illyria’s performance of Macbeth, ‘a blood soaked tragedy of vaulting ambition’. This gruesome tale of murder and treachery is ideal entertainment for all the family. Please bring your own seating/rug, warm clothes and picnic. BYO: bring your own picnic/drinks. 

Torro plus special guestsMesmerist regulars Toro (previously The Move Ons) are a Brighton based four piece rock band with songs that range from acoustic chill out, to heavy riffs and atmospheric breakdowns. Expect an exciting and slick performance full of catchy melodies and interesting hooks.
