Free and cheap things to do in March

March is here! Why not celebrate and save your pennies at the same time by getting along to one of the great free and cheap events across Brighton. Take your pick from photography workshops, live music, exhibitions, quizzes, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, comedy, sponsored runs plus a Women’s Day Spectacular and a chocolate festival.


1Nude Model Photography Methodology – The Warehouse Gallery

Covering all aspects from planning a shoot to execution. This workshop will be interactive, with a nude model and with exercises based on the workshop content, whereby you will be tasked with taking a great nude photograph by the end of the night.

2SED Records UK Presents: Hornet + Support– Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar

Hornet mix rock, punk and metal together to create their individual brand of heavy music. Reckless Ambition are a four piece Hard Rock band from the South East of England.  Speed rockers Whitemare strip rock’n’roll down to raw grooves. Brighton’s  Rory Indiana infuse distorted guitar riffs and nutty bass lines.

3Fun Quiz: International Women’s Day – Marlborough Pub

Lorraine Bowen hosts quizzing you on general knowledge and great women. Prizes of the surreal charity shop genre. All proceeds to Brighton Women’s Centre.

5Traumfrau & Pink Fringe Presents: Women’s Day Spectacular – The Wagner Hall

Pink Fringe & Traumfrau have joined force to bring you the best of two worlds. A night of interestingly different performances and participatory art, a warehouse of things happening to and with the audience, a garden of wild things, followed by a dancefloor with a twist.

6The Vibrators – The Prince Albert

A top night of old school Punk from one of the original bands from the start, The Vibrators  at one of Brighton’s best live venues. With 30 + albums under their belt, the band are as strong as ever and gigging all over Europe this year and continuing around Canada and Australia, on release of the new album: “On the guest list”.

9Sport Relief 2014: The Brighton & Hove Mile – Brighton Big Wheel

Why not get down to the Seafront to see hundreds of locals getting on their marks, set and go for Sport Relief. There will also be an exhibition race at 10am of Land Paddling on the race circuit first so don’t be late.

10Ben Norris: Mr Ambiguousness – Komedia

After a fantastic time supporting Ed Byrne on his national tour Ben Norris is hitting the road on his own. Ben’s TV credits include, Mock The Week (BBC2), They Think It’s All Over (BBC1), and Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC2).

13WWF Earth Hour Healthwalk 2014 – Brighton Bandstand and Seafront

Join the 6th annual special Healthwalk to help mark the biggest environmental event in history, Earth Hour. Hundreds of millions of people in 7,000 cities and towns in 152 countries and territories switched off their lights for Earth Hour in 2013. Join the WWF Earth Hour Healthwalk 2014 in Brighton.

The festival has been completely re-thought to offer an utterly unique visitor experience. It’s a chance for chocoholics to not only discover the best and newest artisan chocolates, but also to indulge their senses in Britain’s first celebration of its kind.

14Vegfest 2014 – Hove Centre

VegFest, one of Europe’s premier veggie and vegan shows celebrates Its 6th year with its Brighton show!
