Saltdean – Brighton – Hove – Shoreham

Brighton is famous for being a cycle city (as anyone who has nearly been run over after accidentally wandering onto a bike path can confirm!). The bright lights of Brighton beach offer endless entertainment, but there are also miles of beautiful coastline waiting to be explored.

From the pier, bike paths offer a gateway to long stretches of coast in both directions. Turn left to head down to the Marina and cruise onwards for the picturesque chalk cliffs of Saltdean and dramatic beaches of Peacehaven. Turn right from the pier to cycle down the Hove Promenade, and on to the seaside town of Shoreham-by-Sea. Cool down en route at the King’s Esplanade, with a scoop of authentic Italian ice-cream from local institution Marrocco’s.

This route is peppered with seaside cafes and restaurants for well-deserved refreshment breaks. The coastline is pretty flat, making it perfect for a relaxing ride, or experienced cyclists can make it a bit more challenging by cycling the entire route, or adding the ‘Shoreham Loop’ on to their journey. Hop on your bike and discover the hidden treasures of the East Sussex coastline!

About The Writer

I recently graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Anthropology. Since moving back I have been happily reacquainted with Brighton’s idiosyncratic streets and colourful characters. I like writing and riding my bike around the city hunting for hidden treasures.
