One of the UK’s top baristas is to teach coffee lovers in Brighton how to make the perfect cup of coffee. Hisbe, on York Place, celebrates the launch of its coffee bar with a free in-store with Tom Hamlyn on 15th March. Hamlyn, the Barista champion and regional account manager for Fairtrade coffee company Cafédirect (a partner of hiSbe), will be at the York Place store from 12pm to 2pm doing latte art, mini coffee making and tasting sessions.

Barista Tom, who participated in the prestigious UK Barista Championships for the first time this year, will also do a presentation on the Cafédirect mission and product range. To mark the occasion, all hot drinks from the bar will be available at the special price of just £1 all day.

hiSbe is a new ethical supermarket in the heart of Brighton and aims to make good food more affordable. Coffee sales help keep food prices below the recommended retail price.

Amy Anslow, co-founder at hiSbe who also ran a market stall selling fair and direct trade coffee, said:

“The coffee bar is an important part of the hiSbe pilot store and gives us the opportunity to showcase even more local producers. Ethical, delicious coffee without a silly price tag has always been close to my heart, so we’re delighted that Tom is coming to help us perk up next Saturday for many coffee loving Brightonians.”

Tom Hamlyn added:

“The ethics and views of Cafédirect and hiSbe are a perfect match, and at Cafédirect we wholeheartedly support hiSbe’s different way of doing business while doing good. I’m looking forward to meeting Brighton’s coffee enthusiasts and sharing my passion for the black stuff.”

The hiSbe coffee bar, at the front of the store, offers Cafédirect barista coffee, locally made sandwiches, savoury snacks and sweet treats. Takeway food and drinks are all packaged in compostable Vegware containers.

A variety of Cafédirect coffees and teas are stocked in hiSbe at affordable prices, including the popular organic espresso blend, Machu Picchu and Kilimanjaro single origin coffees which will be available to sample, made by Tom’s deft hand. Ground and bean coffee will also be available for shoppers to take home and try out their new skills.

hiSbe also supports the Visit London Road project, part of the Portas Pilot which aims to revitalise the UK high street.
