Without doubt Mexican street food has been the culinary sensation of late, and The Sidewinder is proud to announce that it is bringing this exciting cuisine to a Brighton pub for the first time.

Following a hugely successful takeaway joint on Jubilee Street, Bang Bang Burrito – an independent Brighton business – will take its Mexican food to Kemptown from March. The launch party on Saturday 1st March was a taste of Mexico for all of the senses, with a live band, free samples, Day Of The dead facepainting, Jose Cuervo tequila cocktails and, of course, a piñata.

Hugely creative in the kitchen – his meats frequently marinated and cook for nearly a whole day – Matt will be adding daily specials to an already tempting menus, including bringing the freshest day’s fish into the Mexican arena. It all adds up to an easy to eat, exciting food that’s perfect for grabbing at lunch, or spending more time with in the wonderful Sidewinder garden as the spring arrives.

“Bang Bang Burrito’s style of food is absolutely perfect for a pub setting,” says  Hannah Waddington, the new manager of The Sidewinder. “Great tasting stuff that people can share and really get stuck into. There are a lot of places in Brighton doing standard pub grub fare, and it’s a shame, because people in Brighton – more than anywhere else I’ve been – love to get behind things that are interesting and unusual. I’m so excited about this food offering because it’s something I’d like to see if I was a punter.”

“The Sidewinder has such a perfect vibe for this kind of eating,” adds Oli Hyde, Managing Director of Bang Bang Burrito. “It has lots of comfy, cosy sofa filled nooks for sitting around with friends and sharing plates of nachos or tacos, but also has the busy, bustling and lively weekends where you want to grab something quick, delicious and filling to see you through and into the party. Bang Bang ticks all these boxes, it’s fresh, it’s quick, it’s nutritious, it’s filling, and most of all it’s bloody delicious.”

The ever popular roasts will stay on Sundays, but with an encouragement for diners to join the staff in donning their Sunday best (bow-ties and hats can be provided). That’s joined by Hospitality Night on Mondays, giving Brighton’s bartenders 20% off, the open mic nights and quizzes in the week, and party DJs to get the weekends jumping.

Hannah who previously re-juvinated The Marlborough with the introduction of Half Man! Half Burger! (Read our review here) has now moved on to The Sidewinder to introduce Bang Bang Burrito, along with Oli The Managing Director of Bang Bang Burrito and Matt Head Chef at The Sidewinder, to the Kemp Town pub.

When we arrived we got to sample a deliciously refreshing Tequila cocktail called the Paloma with a big wedge of tangy grapefruit before Matt started bringing out some of his creations.

Lovely hunks of pork belly soaked and cooked over a day and a half in their own fat yum! A deliciously salty alternative to your usual bar snack, these will definitely get you drinking your beer a lot quicker! Next we tried some tasty tortillas filled with cheese and your choice of pork, chicken or beef.

Through out you can truly tell how passionate Matt is about his food, he could talk for hours about each dish and you can definitely taste the care and attention he puts in.

Finally we were treated to the burrito sharing platter where you can build your own burrito choosing various sauces and salsas to accompany either beef, chicken or pork deliciously seasoned and and shredded. One of the highlights was the Chipotle mayo style dressing you have to try it!

Overall the food was delicious and Matt’s passion shines through, definitely a place to visit. We can’t wait for Summer so we can sit in the great garden and enjoy a cocktail and some tasty Mexican dishes!
