The idea of a chocolate making workshop is surely everyones idea of pure heaven, so I was absolutely delighted at being invited along with my son. The chocolate making workshop is run by ‘The Little Cook Club’ and this workshop was held at the Garden Café in St Ann’s Well Gardens which is a lovely little venue in the middle of the park. The teacher Kate introduced herself and seemed to have an immediate rapport with the children. She explained that we would be making chocolate bunny lollies, chocolate soldiers and filling mini chocolate eggs with caramel or flavoured fondant. There were about 14 of us in the group which was a good size to ensure we could all see Kate and get assistance from her when needed.

lcc1We were told to wash our hands and given aprons to wear and then it was on to the good stuff….mixing up our caramel or fondants to pipe into our eggs later. Then we concentrated on our white chocolate bunny lollipops. We were given chocolate in piping bags and plenty of tasty treats to decorate with. This was quite a difficult task for my four year old as it took a bit of skill to control the piping bag to draw out the bunny head, but the slightly older children had absolutely no problem at all. Next we made chocolate soldiers in a silicon mould this time, which made it really easy for the children and the finished soldiers looked really professional. Lastly we filled some readymade mini chocolate eggs with the fondant from earlier, then sealed them up with more chocolate and had the option of adding popping candy or other decorations. I can confirm that milk chocolate eggs filled with strawberry fondant, decorated with popping candy, are pretty tasty.

We ended by packaging up all our goodies nicely in bags, boxes and ribbons and headed off home with a large supply of chocolate. I have never seen my son as excited in all his four years, he was squealing with glee at times, it was a real pleasure to watch. He was engaged throughout the whole workshop and really wanted to show off his handy work to Kate.

This is a fantastic treat for anyone from 4 to 104, it was a fun and not too complicated workshop but most importantly the chocolate was divine. They not only run workshops but as they are mobile they are also able come to your house for birthday and hen parties or even just to give you an excuse to get some people together.

The Little Cook Club will be at the Children’s Food Festival this Friday and Saturday on Hove lawns so why not pop down with the kids for some free food fun!

About The Writer

I grew up in London and studied in Brighton many many moons ago but it was only two years ago that I decided to return to this wonderful city, to make it my family home. There may not be sand on our beach but a view of the sea never fails to inspire me. I am rediscovering Brighton but this time as a 'grown up'. My writing has become my passion, along with food and Peach Bellinis. http://www.mostlytalkingtomyself.wordpress.com
