Komedia: one of the leading comedy venues in the South

Published On July 6, 2012 | By We Love Brighton | Reviews, Theatre & Arts Features

Located in the heart of the North Laines, amid the hoi polloi of Brighton, stands The Komedia – One of the leading entertainment and comedy venues in the South.
With its prominent décor and signature club nights, it has been aptly voted one of Brighton’s best nights out by Latest 7.

Hordes of comedy goers flock to Komedia’s multifarious line up, a fusion of Live Bands, Comedy Kings and Cabaret. There is a great deal for all to appreciate. With swarms of fresh faced talent, Local performers as well as recurrent favourites, Komedia offers a variety of great nights in entertainment.

Prominent events include the Krater Komedy Club, a weekly show of home grown comedy featuring ‘up-and-coming acts’ and an array of international and national performers.

The venue itself integrates 3 stylishly simple and considerably equipped performance spaces, informally set up with a mix of cosily put together tables for seated acts and capacious floor space for more vigorous performances.
This includes an intimate Studio Bar, perfect for acoustic sets, solo performances or privately hosted parties. Freshly cooked food and an assortment of beverages are available from the allotted Bars and downstairs Kitchen, in addition to their ‘street-side’ Café Bar – an ideal stamping ground before evening performances and lunch time haunt. Prices are kept relatively low although perhaps will leave Brighton’s student population slightly out of pocket.

Praises are frequent from regular punters. Perhaps the only minor downfall being a proportion of Komedia’s club nights having a few rather select cliques and if not a regular, you may be greeted with slightly bewildered looks on turning up to an event you have not previously been to. Regardless of this, The Komedia is still an enormously sociable and welcoming venue and is largely accommodating to the dynamic folk of Brighton. Situated close by to Brighton’s Royal Pavilion and a mere 5 minutes walk to Brighton Station, the venue is straightforward to get to.

With car parking accessible 24 hours a day at the NCP North Road and Church Street car parks, both within walking distance of The Komedia. Information on forthcoming shows and advice on purchasing tickets are available at the counter or online.
