2013 has seen the Oxfordshire four-piece MMX progress at a dramatic rate – most recently being chosen to support The 1975 on their September UK tour and having already performed at Reading & Leeds and T in the Park festivals earlier in the summer – it would seem few bands emerge in such a fully-formed and conscious state as MMX.

Following debut EP ‘Child’ with a continuation on their lyrical story in EP2, ‘Heir’ impresses with it’s finely balanced emotional tracks. The percussive intro pattern pulls the listener in to their single ‘Only‘, which is soon enveloped with lush instrumentation, a silky-smooth production and expressive vocal.

“At just shy of six minutes in length, ‘Only’ is a bit longer than your average pop song but it is fair to say it is a bit better than your average pop song as well” (Alphabet Bands).

For fans of Snow Patrol, The Editors or other slightly-synthy melodic pop/rock outfits, MMX provide a fresh melancholic musical relief from day-to-day life. This is the last date on the MMX’s January tour (falling on the 1st of February still counts!) so catch them before the tour ends!

With support from the vocally stunning and wonderfully atmospheric Jagga.
