8 King’s Esplanade

Marrocco’s has been bringing an authentic slice of Italy to Hove’s Kings Esplanade since the 1960s. In 1969 the Marrocco family bought what was then ‘Fortes’, and transformed it into a traditional Italian ice cream parlour: over forty years later and there are still queues out of the door during summer, with kids and grownups alike waiting to get their hands on the legendary Italian ice cream. Current owner Pietro’s father used to get up at 4am to make sure that the ice cream was ‘just right’ and generations of happy customers will agree that he cracked the winning formula. In 1998 Marrocco’s began serving food, and soon gained a reputation for genuine Italian cooking and seafood specialities. Still family owned and run to this day, visit Marrocco’s for the fish, freshly made pasta and Italian hospitality – and don’t forget to stay for an ice cream!

About The Writer

I recently graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Anthropology. Since moving back I have been happily reacquainted with Brighton’s idiosyncratic streets and colourful characters. I like writing and riding my bike around the city hunting for hidden treasures.
