Volks Railway

Volks railway is an iconic heritage attraction and the world’s oldest operating electric railway opened on 4th August 1883. This railway holds a special place in history, with its origins dating back to the Victorian era. It showcases beautifully preserved carriages and tracks which can take up to eighty passengers along the beach from the Palace Pier to Black Rock and Brighton Marina.

Volks is old-school entertainment at its best and great if you’re not feeling up to the Marina trek. The railway covers a 1.25-mile stretch between the Aquarium Station and the Black Rock Station. Passengers can hop on and off at various stops, each offering unique perspectives of the coastline and nearby attractions.

For those interested in finding out more about the history behind the Volks Railway, the Volk’s Railway Museum is located near the Aquarium Station and showcases a collection of artefacts, photographs, and memorabilia which will take you on a journey of the railway’s evolution. The railway also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, ranging from special-themed rides to seasonal celebrations. Whether it’s a family outing, a romantic date, or a solo adventure, the railway offers something for everyone.

Tickets can be purchased for a single journey (£3 for an adult, £1,50 for a child and free for children under 3), unlimited day tickets are also available at £7.50 for adults and £4 for children or families of 2 adults and up to 3 children can purchase a family ticket for £8.
